What is in Isaac Newton's 300-year-old writings?
Sir Isaac Newton is considered one of the greatest scientists in history. He is world-famous for his work on the laws of motion and gravity. One thing that many people do not know is that Newton spent decades of his life researching theology, the Bible, and historical laws. A personal document written by him in 1704 has recently come to light. In that writing, he mentioned the year 2060 as the end of a historical era.
Many people predict the year 2060 as the time of the end of the world based on Newton's letter. Although historians and scientists have different opinions on this subject. Newton originally calculated a specific period of time through a numerological analysis of the Bible's Book of Daniel and Book of Revelation. He took a specific phrase in the Bible as a time, two times, and half a time as three and a half years. Then, according to the method used by the scholars of the time, he calculated a period of 1260 years by taking each day as a year. Newton took the beginning of his calculation as 800 AD. At that time, the power of the Roman Empire was consolidated. He added 1260 years to those 800 years and arrived at 2060.
Newton wrote in his writings, "If this period of 1260 days is counted from 800 AD, it will end in 2060 AD. It may end later, but I see no reason why it should end earlier." Newton's calculation was not a prediction of a cataclysm or apocalypse. Rather, he believed that the year 2060 would mark the end of an unstable or corrupt phase of human history. He was clearly critical of those who frequently announced the date of the end of the world and spread fear among people. His work was based on cautionary and historical interpretation, not a miraculous prediction in the modern sense.
Newton's 1704 manuscript is now preserved as a primary historical source. It is part of the Yahudah Manuscript Collection at the National Library of Israel. The document has now been digitally preserved under The Newton Project so that researchers can easily study it. In short, Newton did not say that the world would end in 2060. He simply tried to extract a mathematical timeline from the Bible text. His calculation is now being wrongly promoted as a doomsday prophecy in our time.
