Delhi wants to see 'stronger' ties with Dhaka: Jaiswal

India has expressed its hope to further strengthen the ‘multi-dimensional’ relationship between Dhaka and New Delhi.

“As you know, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Tanique Rahman soon after the BNP’s victory in the Bangladesh elections,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhart Jaiswal said at a weekly briefing on Friday.

“Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla attended the swearing-in ceremony of the new government in Bangladesh on February 17. He handed over a letter from Narendra Modi to Tanique Rahman.”

“The letter reiterates India’s commitment to supporting a democratic, progressive and inclusive Bangladesh,” Jaiswal said.

“Building on the warm and historic relations between the two countries, India has expressed its hope to further strengthen the multi-dimensional bilateral relationship with Bangladesh.”

Jaiswal also spoke about visa procedures between India and Bangladesh in the briefing.
